# Active Context: OCD Website Implementation Phase 3-4 Transition
## What I'm Working On Now
- Completing Phase 3 of the OCD website development plan
- Finalizing admin interface implementation
- Setting up connections between frontend UI and backend APIs
- Preparing for Phase 4 (accessibility features and refinement)
- Adding API integration for CRUD operations
- Temporarily bypassing authentication for development (Members and Events)
- Planning authentication implementation for production deployment
## Recent Changes
- **FIXED**: Theme selector functionality has been completely resolved
- Identified and fixed conflicting theme systems (custom context vs next-themes)
- Updated ThemeSelector.tsx to use next-themes useTheme hook with resolvedTheme
- Modified layout.tsx to use proper next-themes configuration (attribute="class", defaultTheme="system")
- Removed conflicting custom context files (ThemeContext.tsx, ClientProviders.tsx)
- Theme switching now works properly with light/dark/system modes
- Used best practices from Perplexity MCP research for Next.js 13+ App Router theme implementation
- Current minor issue: Responsive design on smaller screens hides Donate button and theme selector (to be addressed later)
- Improved dark theme appearance and accessibility:
- Enhanced contrast for navigation menu items in dark mode by using white text
- Fixed site title "Olathe Club of the Deaf" contrast in dark mode by changing to white
- Added dark background to navigation menu in dark mode for better visibility
- Fixed mobile menu button contrast in dark mode
- Improved visibility of secondary buttons in dark mode
- Fixed heading contrast issues throughout the site
- Enhanced "No image available" text visibility in dark mode
- Fixed event card date and "Learn more" link contrast in dark mode by changing to white text
- Improved contrast for event card descriptions by changing to white text in dark mode
- Enhanced About section paragraph text visibility with white text in dark mode
- Fixed Membership Benefits section text contrast with white text in dark mode
- Fixed "Join Our Community" section text contrast by changing background to dark gray in dark mode
- Changed "View All Events" button from secondary to primary style for consistency
- Updated "View All Board Members" button in About page to use primary style
- Added explicit text color for headings in dark mode
- Improved CSS variables for dark mode with better text contrast
- Fixed "Join OCD" button visibility in dark mode
- Implemented comprehensive admin dashboard system:

- Built out events management with filtering and CRUD UI

- Fixed navigation menu accessibility issue where active menu items blended with background
- Improved active menu item contrast using exact primary blue color via inline styles
- Added orange accent border and white text for clear visual distinction
- Ensured consistent branding by matching active menu style with primary button styling
- Applied the same blue color used in the "Upcoming Events" button for consistency
## Next Steps
1. Fix responsive navigation design:
- Investigate why mobile menu button isn't showing on smaller screens
- Ensure Donate button and theme selector are accessible on all screen sizes
- Test navigation functionality across different viewport sizes
2. Implement remaining admin features:
- Add user notification system (Next priority)
- Enhance admin dashboard with real-time statistics
- Add advanced filtering and search capabilities
3. Deploy staging environment:
- Set up Docker containers for testing
- Configure environment variables
- Enable SSL certificates
- Test on multiple devices and browsers
4. Utilize optimized Perplexity MCP tools:
- The Perplexity MCP server has been optimized for Pro subscription
- All tools now use enhanced parameters (max_tokens: 4000, temperature: 0.7, top_p: 0.9)
- Use for comprehensive documentation and API research
## Recent Document Management System Implementation
- Created Document model with simplified schema for document metadata
- Implemented DocumentController with CRUD operations and accessibility features
- Added document processor service for file handling and text version generation
- Updated upload middleware to handle document files and text versions
- Created useDocuments hook for frontend data management
- Simplified document model by removing category field and replacing status with isPublic flag
- Enhanced document types to be more specific and user-friendly
- Implemented document listing page with filtering by type and public/private status
- Added document creation form with file upload and metadata fields
- Created document details view page with improved PDF preview and download options
- Fixed PDF preview to display in browser without forcing downloads

## Recent Video Management System Enhancements
- Implemented file upload system for videos, thumbnails, subtitles, and transcripts
- Added automatic video duration detection using ffmpeg
- Implemented automatic thumbnail generation at 2-second mark when not provided (changed from 10-second mark to avoid black frames)
- Created backend processing pipeline for video files
- Added accessibility features tracking based on subtitles and transcript availability
- Created API route to serve uploaded files from backend
- Updated VideoForm component to handle file uploads instead of YouTube URLs
- Improved user experience with file previews and validation
- Fixed styling issues with file inputs by adding custom CSS classes
- Created consistent file input styling across the admin interface
- Ensured consistent UI patterns across all admin interfaces
- Fixed video duration display by rounding to the nearest second
- Fixed thumbnail generation by switching from command-line ffmpeg to fluent-ffmpeg library
- Added extensive logging to debug thumbnail generation issues
- Fixed API route for serving uploaded files by properly awaiting params and handling path duplications
- Added missing video view page with detailed information display
- Added missing video edit page with pre-populated form
- Fixed 404 errors when clicking view and edit links in the videos list
- Added red Delete button with confirmation dialog to the videos list page
- Fixed Reset button styling by changing background from white to light gray for better visibility
- Enhanced Apply Filters button with more prominent blue styling to improve visibility
## Special Considerations
- **RESOLVED**: Theme selector functionality has been completely fixed
- Successfully implemented next-themes for proper theme management
- Removed conflicting custom context that was causing state management issues
- Theme switching now works seamlessly with proper SSR/hydration handling
- Minor responsive design issue on smaller screens to be addressed in next phase
- CRITICAL: Re-enable authentication middleware before production deployment
- Members routes (POST, PUT, DELETE, bulk-action)
- Events routes (POST, PUT, DELETE, registration)
- Videos routes (POST, PUT, DELETE, subtitles, transcript, thumbnail, publish)
- Documents routes (POST, PUT, DELETE, textversion, public, accessibility)
- Ensure ffmpeg is installed on the production server for video processing
- Implement JWT-based authentication with proper security measures
- Ensure strict authentication for all admin routes
- Keep all forms accessible and keyboard navigable
- Ensure admin interfaces work well on mobile devices
- All uploaded content must support WCAG 2.2 AA compliance
- Maintain clear separation between public and admin areas
- Add proper validation for all form inputs
