Progress - Current Status

What Works ✅

Core Website Functionality

  • Responsive Design: Website works across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices
  • Navigation: Header with responsive navigation menu
  • Pages: Home, About, Services, and Contact pages are functional
  • Styling: Modern design with Tailwind CSS and animations

Contact Form System

  • Form Validation: Client and server-side validation working
  • Input Sanitization: XSS prevention and input cleaning implemented
  • Email Sending: Contact form submissions sent via Gmail SMTP
  • Rate Limiting: Spam prevention through Redis-based rate limiting
  • Error Handling: Graceful error handling with user feedback
  • Toast Notifications: User feedback system for form submissions

Technical Infrastructure

  • Next.js App Router: Modern routing system implemented
  • TypeScript: Type safety throughout the codebase
  • Docker: Containerized development and production environments
  • Environment Configuration: Proper environment variable setup
  • Redis Integration: Upstash Redis for rate limiting functionality

Email Configuration

  • SMTP Setup: Gmail SMTP properly configured
  • Authentication: Google App Password authentication working

Technical Debt

  • Email Implementation Duplication: Two similar email implementations exist:
    • Active: Direct implementation in /src/app/api/contact/route.ts
    • Unused: Utility function in /src/lib/email.ts
  • Potential Consolidation: Could refactor to use single email utility

Recent Accomplishments

  • ✅ Tailwind CSS v4 Styling Fix (Latest): Fixed styling issues after package updates
    • Migrated globals.css from v3 format to v4 format
    • Changed from @tailwind directives to @import "tailwindcss"
    • Added @theme block with custom color variables (blue-800, blue-900, gold-400)
    • Verified build success and styling restoration on local development
    • Committed and pushed changes to repository (commit d4d6461)
  • ✅ Package Updates: Successfully updated all web packages to latest versions
    • Updated 22 packages: Next.js 15.0.4→16.0.10, React 19.0.0→19.2.3, Tailwind CSS 3.4.16→4.1.18
    • Fixed Tailwind CSS v4 breaking changes by installing @tailwindcss/postcss plugin
    • Updated PostCSS configuration to use '@tailwindcss/postcss' instead of 'tailwindcss'
    • Verified local build success with all updated packages
    • Rebuilt Docker container successfully (14 minutes build time)
    • All major dependencies now on latest stable versions
  • ✅ Headshot Replacement: Successfully updated Mark's headshot on about page
    • Replaced old portrait (3648x5472) with new 2025 landscape headshot (2000x1333)
    • Updated CSS layout from aspect-[2/3] to aspect-[3/2] for proper display
    • Renamed files: mark.jpg → mark-old-2024.jpg, Mark 2025.jpg → mark.jpg
    • Achieved 80% file size reduction (2.4MB → 459KB) for better performance
    • Preserved original as backup with clear naming convention
  • Created comprehensive Memory Bank documentation system
  • Analyzed current email system architecture
  • Documented all technical components and configurations
  • Completed email configuration modifications and testing
